Squad-3 Week 4, Progress Report for 10/3/14
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Committee Chairmen Steve Stockwell
October 5, 2014

This is the progress report for Squad-3 for the week of 10/3/14. As you can see the frame is completed with the axles/wheels mounted and air ride installed for the rear tandems. You'll notice that the frame is Painted Yellow which in previous years prior to Truck-3 this was not the case. This is what I call a "Good Mistake' by accidentally painting the frame yellow we realized if any mechanical problems persisted or occurred like leaks for example, it was to our benefit as we could see oil, grease or exhaust soot for instance much more easily and that the yellow paint made it much easier to determine a problem/where it was coming from. Also, the cab has been moved to install the light bars from Whelen and although the picture looks funny with half a cab... its all there. The Detroit Diesel DD13 power plant with 500hp and 1650 ft-lbs of torque is mated to the Allison 4500 EVS 6-Speed Transmission and, sticking with Detriot's especially Series 60's have been an reliable and valuable asset to BDVFD which is why continued to keep the Fleet Detroit. Finally, the body is steadily moving along with construction and should be close to mounting on the frame and being painted.
