Firefighter Kevin Jasey Bids Farewell After 20 Years to the United States Navy

February 15, 2014

On February 15, 2014 I had the distinct pleasure of going to the retirement ceremony from the Navy of one Kevin Jasey a firefighter stationed out of station 9. Kevin who has been a member of our department for a couple years just completed his twenty years serving our country in the United States Navy. Kevin came to us when his wife took a job working on board the Naval Air Station before he had orders to report on board the USS George Washington for his last final tour of duty. During his short time with us Kevin has stepped up and gotten checked out on some of the equipment such as the brush truck and utility. In addition Kevin has worked with some of the younger guys around the station always willing to lend a hand any way he can. He is currently enrolled at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute taking the accelerated firefighters course where he goes every day.
Now receiving an invite to his ceremony I had never been to one so didn’t quite know what to expect. Well needless to say I was very impressed with the entire program. Now I know that I get kidded a lot from some of our members who tell me my stories are not exciting enough for our web site but I have told them that from now on I will be the social affairs reporter and keep our membership up to speed on just what else is going on around the firehouse. And to say that this ceremony was not as exciting as a fire or wreck I would beg to differ with you because when the colors of our great nation are presented to the group that was gathered In the social hall of the firehouse along with the singing of our national anthem I don’t think you could get more exciting than that do you.
After the ceremony everyone sat down for some words from both Kevin and some of his guests. It was also time to meet Kevin’s family and his older brother was a real character and everyone really enjoyed it. The master of ceremonies was another one of our own Lieut. Commander Clinton Stonewall who did a great job also showing great respect for Kevin and his family.
So that is about it for now. Stay tuned to the back of our web site where they put my stories and I hope that you continue to enjoy my stuff.
