By Firefighter Nathan Lindgren
February 10, 2014
Coming soon to southern Maryland, Former FDNY Rescue 4, used on 9/11/01 will be coming to Southern Maryland in April and staying three weeks to span until May. This will be made possible by the Remembrance Rescue Project.
The project's history includes the purchase of two FDNY Rescues, which were used on 9/11, by a group of firefighters. While one of the Rescues still tours the U.S. The other of the two suffered major engine problems and was traded for another one of the Rescues which is used now that tours additionally to the first. Currently Rescue 5 is touring to the west coast and Rescue 4 is about to begin an east coast tour starting with Bay District Volunteer Fire Department with dates to be announced in late April to Early May.
This trip to Southern Maryland will include school visits, area events, and quartering at Bay District. The public is invited to attend as a living piece of history visits the area. An official schedule of events and additional information on the project will soon be available on the website.
Keep your eye on the website for more information and how to get involved. This project is a LIVING PIECE OF HISTORY. For those who were alive the day of the attacks, you realize how hard it struck America. For those who weren't old enough or even alive, the project is a true history of the events which transpired on that day and the impact of them on our lives in America. Announcements on this very special event and updates will be available here at BDVFD.ORG as they are available. Please contact Bay District Volunteer Fire Department for more information.
Attached is a video and several photos of the Projects Rescues and a little more information about the project from the perspective of the City of Allen, Texas when they hosted the project. For more info on the project, please visit their website noted below.
