At 1609 hours on July 5, 2012, Stations 4, 14, 3 & 9 were dispatched to 49181 Demko Rd for the 1 to 2 acre brush fire. Engine 33 (FF Vanness) and Brush 9 marked up moments after dispatch. At 1620 hours Engine 33 went on location and assisted engine 141 with making a break on the fire. After about 45 minutes the fire had burned another 2 acres and Command (Fire Chief 4) started additional companies for manpower and Trooper 7 for an aerial view of the incident. The fire continued to grow and additional manpower was needed. Emergency Communications imitated a general alarm for St. Mary's, Charles, and Calvert Counties for additional manpower that could assist with containing the fire. Units worked for more than 6 hours before containing and soaking it down. County dozers were also called to create a barrier around the Burned area.
Thanks goes out to Calvert and Charles county Volunteers for helping out during this incident.
