By Firefighter/EMT Jeff Evans
January 8, 2012

On January 8, 2012 at 2236 hours the Ridge VFD, Bay District VFD, Avenue VFD, NAWC Fire Department, Ridge EMS and Lexington Park EMS and were dispatched to 48548 Mattapany Road in St. James for the report of a Garage Fire. Engine 33, Engine 93 and Truck 3 all responded at dispatch along with the other units. While enroute St. Mary's ECC advised Chief 4 that the homeowner was attempting to put the fire out with a garden hose and wished to cancel the Fire Department. Chief 4 advised to keep the assignment coming and at 2242 hours Chief 4 arrived on the scene with Engine 33 and Truck 3 advising of a split foyer residence with smoke showing from the garage and established Command of the Incident. Engine 33's crew advanced two 1.75" handlines and made quick work of the attic fire in the garage. Truck 3's crew threw ground ladders, opened up for the Engine Company and conducted searches for extension. As other units arrived on the scene they setup a manpower pool directed by Chief 4B. At 2246 hours Command placed the fire under control holding units on the scene. Crews on the scene worked a short time performing overhaul and hitting the remaining hot spots. At 2340 hours Command was terminated and all units returned to quarters a short time later.
